"Downton Abbey" fans are still mourning the shocking death of Matthew Crawley, so much so that actor Dan Stevens, who played the suave Englishman, has to apologize with some regularity.

Appearing on the "Today" show Thursday morning (Jan. 9) to promote his new film "Summer In February," Stevens said that he spends a lot of his time apologizing to fans on the street. "I get a lot of, 'My wife was very upset by this. You have to apologize to my wife!,'" Stevens said. "Then they call them over. 'Katherine! Come over here. This is the young man that upset you.' 'Say sorry!'" How often does this happen, you ask? "Almost every day," Stevens added.

Hopefully Stevens doesn't have to apologize for much longer now that Season 4 has started. But hey, at least he's not getting death threats for leaving the celebrated ITV show, as hardcore "Breaking Bad" fans have been known to react toward TV characters.

If you find yourself dealing with continued angst over the Stevens' departure from "Downton," you can enjoy seeing him in early 20th century attire again when "Summer In February" opens Jan. 17.

UPDATE: A previous version of this story stated "Downton Abbey" is a BBC show, however it has been corrected as an ITV show.
