Andrew Haringer, 'Jeopardy!' Player From Squamish, Wins 5 Games

Andrew Haringer was just happy to be on "Jeopardy!" But the instructor from Squamish, B.C. never anticipated winning five games and almost US$100,000.

He believes he's also the first person in the show's history to win four straight games from a second-place position, reported CKNW.

Haringer, who is originally from Seattle, tried out for the game in 2013 and taped his episodes in February and March, Global News reported. He told the station it was tough to stay quiet until the shows aired last week.

The arts and humanities teaching fellow at Quest University flubbed a Final Jeopardy question about a Disney princess on Monday night but still survived, said The Squamish Chief.

Haringer ended his run on the show Thursday night with a haul of $98,599.

Haringer shared a few "Jeopardy!" tips with CKNW's The Simi Sara Show. He recommended that prospective contestants use a ballpoint pen to practice buzzing in, and to "glean the solution from the wording of the clue."

As for the prize money, Haringer plans to save most of it and do some more travelling than he expected this summer.

He'll also compete in the Tournament of Champions, which pits some of the best players against each other.

But Haringer isn't the first "Jeopardy!" contestant to call B.C. home.

In 2013, Matt Church became the game's first-ever participant from Prince George. He won two straight games for a haul of $29,000.
